12km section of Tehran Metro inaugurated

The second section of Line 3 of the Tehran Metro, with a length of 12 kilometers, was inaugurated on Tuesday. The project cost are estimated at 20 trillion rials (about $800 million). The first section of Line 3, with a length of 7 kilometers, became operational in December 2012.

Line 3 of the Tehran Metro will extend 37 kilometers when it is completed, connecting the metropolitan area’s far south and far north, and will be the longest subway line in the Middle East.

The Tehran Metro has four operational lines, stretching for a total of about 152 kilometers. The subway has 85 stations so far. Currently, the Tehran Metro carries more than 3 million passengers per day.
