JSC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” reported for 2013 a rail freight turnover of 231.2 billion tonnes-km and 16.9 billion passenger– km, while the net profit was approx EUR 555 million. KTZ purchased and modernized 135 locomotives, 3,154 freight wagons, 288 passenger cars. 1,653 container trains were organised and run, 24% more than in 2012.
In 2014 JSC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” plans to increase passenger and cargo traffic by 15% in comparison with 2013, head of national company Askar Mamin stated.
New container trains will be organised on the routs Xi’an–Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan-Shenzhen and Lianyungang – Kazakhstan. Later this year, KTZ plans to put into operation the new railway lines Zhezkazgan-Beineu (988km ) and Arkalyk – Shubarkol (214km), to complete works on the expansion of the Aktau Seaport, plant producing diesel engine in Astana, begin the project on the development of the railway junction “Astana” including the construction of the railway station, which will be finished prior to EXPO 2017.
