ACCIONA Ingenieria secures rail modernisation project in Romania

CFR SA has awarded ACCIONA Ingenieria S.A – Baicons Impex consortium the contract for updating the feasibility study for the electrification and modernisation of Cluj Napoca – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway line. The consortium submitted a EUR 1 million bid.

The specific objective of the investment project is the upgrading of the existing 157.9 km-long railway for allowing maximum speeds of 80 km/hour (for freight trains) and 120 km/hour (for passenger trains).

“Cluj Napoca – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor section has a great impact in the region, contributing directly to economic development and the improvement of local industry freight flows with western Europe. The rehabilitation of this railway section will open a second electrified connection  with Hungary, with direct effects on rail traffic at the western border , “ said Marius CHIPER, general manager of CFR SA.
