Belarus: Gomel-Zhlobin line electrification works to be completed in 2015

Belarusian Railways (BC) is successfully implementing phase two of the Electrification of the Gomel-Zhlobin-Osipovichi section and the Zhlobin-Kalinkovichi section project, using a loan of the Export-Import Bank of China.

In July, BC started the installation of the overhead catenary system on Chalč – Buda-Koshelev section. A number of 4.8 thousand catenary poles are planned to be mounted on Gomel-Zhlobin line (length 86 km)

Currently, the contractors are working on the construction of the two traction power substations (one in the Gomel station station and the second one on Kostyukovka-Zhlobin-Chalč section) and on the installation of two autotransformer systems. As well, track modernisation and repair works are undertaken.

Gomel-Zhlobin line electrification works are expected to be completed in 2015, in line with the construction contract signed on 3 December 2012 by Belarusian Railways and China National Electric Import and Export Corporation (CUEC).
