Belarusian Railways (BC) has launched a new passenger train on Minsk Pasažyrski – Minsk National Airport route. Five three-car DP3 DMUs, manufactured by Pesa Bydgoszcz, each with a capacity of 145 seats, will run daily on this route, in a test mode for the next six months.
“Today we are glad to introduce to passengers our new transport service”, said Mr Vladimir Morozov, Head of the BC. “The new train runs in a test mode.” During this time, the passenger flow will be analyzed in order to adjust the schedule.
He also emphasized that the project has made it possible for passengers to get to the National Airport from any location having a railway station. The project provides for the development of intermodal transportation, integration of air and railway services and establishment of a single transportation system.
The project also included previous infrastructure investments estimated at BYR 104.8 billion (EUR 7.7 million): the refurbishment of Smaliavičy railway station, the construction of the passenger platform and canopies, the reconstruction of Smaliavičy – Shemetova railway line, the signalling system installation etc.
