BKV and Metrowagonmash sign metro car modernisation contract

Budapest transport operator BKV and Russian Metrowagonwash have signed the contract for the modernisation of 222 metro cars operating on M3  metro line.

The Russian company competed in the tender with Alstom Transport SA, Czech Skoda Transportation a.s., Estonian Skinest Rail a.s., Spanish Сonstrucciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. (CAF), as well as a Romanian company and a Hungarian.
Under the agreement, Metrowagonwash will carry out modernisation works for 185 Type 81-717/714 cars, 10 Type 81-717/714-2M cars and 27 Type Ev3 cars. Works include installation of air conditioning system in driver’s cabins and forced air cooking in the passenger compartment, the upgrading of the compressor system, braking equipment and traction system. Train control systems, video surveillance and safety systems will also be modernised. The service life of rolling stock will be extended for 25 years.
The project should be completed in 34 months upon contract conclusion and the first cars will be delivered to the customer in 265 days.
