Bulgaria’s Sofia-Pernik-Radomir railway modernisation project estimated at EUR 388 million 

 

The value Sofia-Pernik-Radomir railway modernisation project is estimated at BGN 760 million (EUR 388 million) and a bypass route for freight trains has to be envisaged, informed Ivo Yanakiev, head of the Project Preparation at the Bulgarian National railway infrastructure company (NRIC) during the technical design project presentation organised by the company (FocusNet).

The railway section Sofia – Pernik – Radomir is part of one of the major national transport axes, the Vidin – Sofia – Kulata railway line, included in Orient/East-Med Corridor.

The 48, 6 km existing railway line is single electrified and passes through a hilly terrain. 

Construction works are expected to be launch in early 2017.
