CAF metro trains enter service in Bucharest

The first two six-car CAF metro trains entered passenger service on Bucharest Metro Line 2 today. In 2011, Metrorex has awarded CAF a EUR 97 million contract to supply 16 metro units with the option of a further 8 trains.

The producer started the deliveries of the first units in December last year. Between January and June 2014, the metro trains undertook endurance trials.

The first four metro trains were manufactured in Beasain – Spain, while the remaining units were assembled by the Romanian company Ateliere CFR Grivita, in Bucharest.

CAF  metro train has a capacity of 1,200 passengers along its 114 m of length with an unobstructed gangway and runs at a maximum speed of 80 km/h (commercial speed 40 km/h).
