Romanian state-owned railway passenger operator, CFR Calatori is preparing to launch an open tender for the acquisition of e-ticketing portable devices. The company has already initiated discussions and expects products presentations from any interested suppliers in the market.
The project for on-board ticket issuing and validation has been announced last year, when a pilot project was started in collaboration with Informatică Feroviară, a subsidiary of CFR SA specialising in IT services. The aim of such equipment acquisition is to raise the standard of service offered to passengers both in terms of train staff activities (validation / monitoring /on board ticket issuing and combating fraudulent travel), and in terms of ticket-selling streamlining and improving customer relationships.
According to a CFR Calatori representative the minimum number of necessary “industrial tablets” is 1400. The devices integrated with thermal printers will first be introduced on InterRegio trains.
Online tickets represent 10% of all tickets sold by CFR Calatori.
