Romanian state-owned railway passenger operator CFR Calatori will purchase ten new trains in 2016. ”This year the Ministry of Transport has made available financing for 10 new multiple units. If procurement procedures will be carried out at rapidly, the new trains will enter operations at the end of 2016, if not, passengers will benefit from new rolling stock in 2017″, stated the transport minister Dan Costescu during a working visit at the recently renovated Arad railway station.
The station renovation is part of the project Rehabilitation of Frontiera (Border) – Curtici – Simeria railway, part of the pan-European Corridor IV, for the trains to operate at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, section 1 Frontieră – Curtici – Arad – Km 614. The contractor is a consortium formed of Alstom Transport S.A, Swietelsky Bau Gesell Sachaft m.b.H, Astaldi S.p.A, Euro Construct Trading’98 S.R.L and Dafora S.A.
Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year. The entering into operation including testing of the signalling and ERTMS systems is scheduled for March 2016.
