China and Kazakhstan have intensively increased collaboration in the field of freight transport and logistics during the last years, with the latter aiming to become a major logistic link connecting Europe and Asia. In February 2015, a regular container train service on the route Lianyungang – Almaty started operations. Three container trains, with an increase to five, are expected to run each week starting with this year.
In July, the first Nomad Express container train, loaded with 106 containers, was launched from China (Shihezi) and traveled to Kazakhstan (Dostyk-Aktau port) and Azerbaijan (Kishly). The train completed the 4726 km-journey in just six days. In December, a second Nomad Express pilot train from China’s east coast port of Lianyungang arrived in Tiblisi (Georgia) on route to Istanbul.
