Croatia has received the European Commission decision for co-financing the construction of a second track and reconstruction of Dugo Selo – Križevci railway section, part of the Corridor Vb and M201 State border – Koprivnica – Dugo Selo railway line.
The total value of the project is estimated at EUR 198 million, with the European Regional Development Fund contributing roughly EUR 168 million. The project is included in the Transport Operational Programme 2007 – 2013.
Works will include the construction of a second 38.2 kilometer track and the reconstruction of the reconstruction of 9 km of the existing line; modernisation of three existing stations (Dugo Selo, Vrbovec and Križevci), the construction of the new station (Gradec) and two other railway stops; construction of five new bridges and reconstruction of the existing seven; the modernisation of electric traction fixed installations, modernization of signaling and interlocking, and telecommunication equipment and installation of ETCS level 1.
The main beneficiary of the project is HZ Infrastruktura, which currently is carrying out the selection of a contractor. Construction works are expected to start in April next year and complete in four years.
After reconstruction, Dugo Selo – Križevci railway route will permit speeds of 160km/h. Travel time will be reduced from from 30 to 18 minutes, transport safety will be improved and line capacity will be increased.
