Cuba to invest USD 1.3 billion in the modernisation of its rail sector

Cuba plans to invest about USD 1.3 billion in the modernisation of the rail sector between 2016-2021, informs the Cuban News Agency citing Enrique Valdés, General Director of Empresa de Ferrocarriles Centro Este, part of Union of Ferrocarriles de Cuba (UFC).  

As part of this investment, Cuba will direct USD 40 millions towards the informatisation of its railway system.

The project for fiber optic data transmission is currently being carried out in the province of Camagüey and will be extended to Santiago de Cuba, with the objective of improving the rail communication system and ensuring a more efficient, a faster and safer rail traffic management.
