Czech company OHL and Serbian Kragujevac Municipality sign MoU On Railway Modernisation

Representatives of the Czech company OHL ZS for Serbia and the local governments of Kragujevac, Batocina and Lapovo in central Serbia signed on Wednesday the memorandum on cooperation in reconstruction of the 30-kilometre long Kragujevac-Corridor 10 railway section.

The reconstruction of the railway section also includes electrification and according to early assessments, its costs will total around EUR 20 million. The project should be backed by the Serbian government and public enterprise Serbian Railways.

The project should be realised so as to ensure easy vehicle transport via railways for the needs of the Fiat Automobili Serbia (FAS) from Kragujevac.

The memorandum was signed by Director of the OHL ZS branch for Serbia Milan Pavic, Deputy Mayor of Kragujevac Nebojsa Zdravkovic, municipal presidents of Batocina and Lapovo Radisa Milosevic and Nebojsa Miletic.

This project bears exceptional importance as one third of Serbia’s exports is realised from this region, and it is also vital because the motorway section from Kragujevac to Corridor 10 has not been completed yet, Zdravkovic said and noted that FAS transports most of its production output by means of railway.
