Czech Railways buys long-distance passenger coaches from ÖBB

cdCzech Railways (ČD) has purchased 47 long-distance passenger coaches from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). The UIC Z1 coaches are equipped with air-conditioning, 230V power sockets, and can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.  

The coaches could service routes to Germany and Austria and also in the news future to Poland, after the modernisation of Katowice – Warsaw rail line for 200 km/h.

Out of the 47 passenger coaches, 41 are second class, 4 first class and 2 restaurant coaches. With this recent acquisition ČD counts over 200 UIC Z1 coaches in its fleet. ČD has also launched last year a tender for the acquisition 5o passenger coaches for Prague – Brno – Bratislava – Budapest route.
