Czech Railways (ČD) will launch a tender for the purchase of ten low-floor multiple units for regional transportation in Prague and Central Bohemia areas. The 120 km/h vehicles will have to be equipped with air-conditioning and will have a minimum capacity of 120 seats.
The first unit is expected to be delivered in 2019 and to enter service on Prague – Kladno rail line.
“Suburban transport that combines the advantages of regional and urban transport is developing rapidly throughout Europe. In the vicinity of large conurbations trains quickly gain passengers and this line is making no exception. This is a also caused by the state of road transport in the capital, the limited number of parking spaces in some Prague locations, and also by the development of a new logistics center in Dobrovíz”, stated Pavel Krtek, CEO of ČD.
