The Czech Transport Minister, Antonin Prachar announced to launch construction tenders worth 54 billion crowns in 2014. Most projects, approximately 38 billion crowns (EUR 1.4 bn), will be related to rail infrastructure developments. Works for Prague’s main train station roof reconstruction could start this year, as well as track renewal between Smíchov and Beroun, reconstruction of the Prague Negrelli viaduct (the first railway bridge across the Vltava).
The high volume of transport tenders will require that the coffers of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure are filled up smartly so that some projects jointly pay rolled by EU funds do not run into problems. A funding shortfall of around 25 billion crowns is expected in both 2015 and 2016. (Radio CZ)
