DB Cargo and BMW have signed a new a multi-year contract to transport automotive components from BMW’s plants in Regensburg and Leipzig to BMW Brilliance Automotive in Shenyang, North-Eastern China. According to the new agreement, DB Cargo will operate two trains per week and a volume of 2,500 containers per year.
“We are pleased to have a new agreement on the long and successful cooperation with BMW in China traffic,” said Andreas Busemann, Chief Sales Officer of DB Cargo. “We have constantly developed our services and shortened rail lead times from formerly 23 to less than 17 days. So door-to-door times of less than 20 days are now possible. This is almost twice as fast as by sea”, he added.
DB Cargo has shipped more than 15,000 containers to China since 2010 when the first contract with BMW was signed. The containers reach China after travelling the 11,000 kilometer route via Poland, Belarus and Russia’s Trans-Siberian.
In addition to BMW, more customers from the automotive sector use BD Cargo’s rail freight service to reach locations in northeastern and eastern China, such as Changchun, Beijing and Shanghai.
