Deutsche Bahn (DB) signed today two memoranda of understanding in China, aiming to increase market presence. During Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to China, DB and CRRC (China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation) have agreed to continue cooperation in the establishment and the optimization of a maintenance system for high-speed multiple units and in providing mutual support for solving operational issues in the area of wheel-rail contact. DB will provide maintenance and repair services to China Railway Corporation (CRC), which operates a 19,000 kilometer high-speed network and has a fleet of 1,400 trains.
DB Engineering & Consulting has received a consulting services contract, as part of a consortium, for regional transport routes operation in Dalian, a city with nearly 6 million people.
“The People’s Republic of China is and will remain an important market for us. With China’s EUR 300 billion investment planned in transport infrastructure, we want to benefit from the growth and potential. Our know-how is requested. The successful international agreements strengthen us in our home market of Germany”, said Dr. Rüdiger Grube, DB CEO.
Deutsche Bahn has been active in China since 1966. DB Schenker currently employs over 5,000 people in the country. DB has been involved, among other things, in the construction of Shanghai Metro, the development of Shanghai’ s high-speed network and the Transrapid. In 2015, DB also established a purchasing office in Shanghai.
