Documentation for Bucharest underground network connection with Otopeni Airport ready in April

The documentation for Bucharest underground Line VI, Gara de Nord – Henri Coandă Otopeni Airport Otopeni Airport connection will be ready next month, stated Ioan Rus, Romanian Minister of Transport for the local press.

Metrorex plans to allocate RON 38.5 million (EUR 8.6 MILLION) for Line VI design, consultancy and technical assistance to launch the procurement procedures for stations and tunnels structure constructions works. The deadline for commissioning the works is 2020, when Romania plans to host four games of the European Football Championship. The project competition until 2020 is also a condition imposed by at UEFA, according to a draft emergency ordinance issued by the Ministry of Transport.

Project Status
In 2011, Metrorex and Padeco PADECO (Japan)/Oriental Consultants Ltd Japan/ METROUL SA
Romania/ SENECA Group International/ SYSTRA (France) JV signed the consultancy contract worth
EUR 66.6 million on Metro Line VI preparation, design and supervision of works. The contract was financed through a JICA credit and from the state budget. In 2012, Metrorex announced the notice of intent for the line construction bid.
