East-Siberian Railways uses alternative energy sources

The “Alternative energy sources” pilot project, developed by East-Siberian Railways (VSZHD),  was launched last year at Mysovaya railway station. The system includes two solar panels and one wind turbine and has a total capacity of 40 kW. In just one month, it can save more than 3.4 thousand kWh.

This alternative energy system is the first implemented on Russia’s railway network.

The wind turbine is connected as well with other sources of energy, like with diesel generators, solar panels etc, creating a closed-loop system. The wind turbine and solar modules are combined into a single system, while the batteries installed allow Mysovaya station to function independently of  external power supply.
