The Bavarian National Assembly has allocated EUR 6 million for the modernisation of the railway line connecting Munich to Prague, via Plzeň. The Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, Building and Transport, Joachim Herrmann during his meeting with his Czech counterpart Dan Ťok, informed that the funding will be used for the electrification of the railway line Regensburg – Schwandorf – Furth im Wald – state border.
The Czech side is currently mordenising Prague – Plzeň railway line and in the future will carry out the electrification of Plzeň – Domažlice to Furth im Wald. “The objective is to have a high quality railway connection between Prague and Munich, to be able to compete with road transport. We aim to reach this goal by 2025”, minister Ťok stated.
Bavaria hopes to include in the forthcoming Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan the development of the main railway axes connecting with Czech Republic: Nürnberg Hof – Schwandorf and Marktredwitz – Schirding railway sections.
