EUR 95.5 million EU financing for Bucharest metro line 2

The European Commission (EC) has approved on Tuesday financing for the first phase of the major infrastructure project “Improvement of public transport services on metro line 2 Berceni-Pipera”.  

For the first phase of modernising Berceni – Pipera metro line project, Bucharest underground operator Metrorex plans to purchase 24 new trains and safety equipment for on-board. EU will provide EUR 95.5 million, representing 85% of the total EUR 112.3 million eligible project costs of this first phase.

The second phase will be implemented under the 2014 -2020 financing period and will involve the rehabilitation of 18 km of double line, tunnels electromechanical systems and construction works for a new access for Tineretului station.
