The first container train linking Wuhan, the capital city of central China, to France has reach Vénissieux Saint-Priest intermodal terminal near Lyon on the 21st of April, after completing 11,300 km in 15 days. The train transported 41 containers loaded with mechanical, electronic and chemical products on the New Silk Route, passing through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany.
“This pilot train has revealed numerous operational and technical challenges”, stated Gilles Cheval, Regional Director of SNCF Réseau (L’Antenne). “This train crossed seven countries and had eight locomotive changes”, he added. Trans-Eurasia Logistics GmbH, a joint venture between Deutsche Bahn and Russian Railways, has coordinated the transport operations, partnered by SNCF and Kombiverkehr.
On the return way, among the products to be exported to China are automobile components, wine and agricultural products made in France.
