First PESA DMU for Vilnius – Klaipeda route enters operation

Lithuanian Railways has introduced into operation the first of seven Pesa 730ML diesel multiple-units for Vilnius – Klaipeda route.

The low-floor trains are equipped with ergonomic seats, passenger information and climate control systems. According Stasys Dailydka, Lithuanian Railways general Manager,  the new trains are more environmentally friendly than diesel locomotives used on the route, and will save about 900 000 liters of fuel per year. “We expect a 7.5 tonnes decrease in emissions”, Dailydka said. 

The new DMU has a capacity of 150 passengers, in first and second classes, LCD screens and also WiFI. 

About 0.5 million  passengers /year First PESA DMU for Vilnius – Klaipeda route enters operationare transported on Vilnius – Klaipeda – Vilnius route.

Lithuanian Railways will put into service the seven Pesa 730ML DMUs by autumn.
