First test train to run on new rail line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars in October

New railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (Iron Silk Way) is not ready for commercial exploitation.

Deputy transport minister Musa Panakhov says that construction works continue, despite the difficult weather conditions.

“In October we’ll be able to ensure passage of a test train directly from Baku to the border with Turkey. Its commercial use will begin after certain trial period. Full commissioning of railway is scheduled for 2015,” Panakhov said.

He points out that work is also underway on the reconstruction of existing railways in the country as part of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Rail Project.
