Green Cargo to join Viking container train project

Green Cargo plans to join the Viking container train project. According to Rima Terminaitė, Director of Lithuanian Railways’ freight forwarding department, the Swedish logistics company will soon submit a membership request.

The representatives of Lithuanian Railways’ freight forwarding department visited last week both Sweden and Finland. Swedish producers expressed interest in transporting via rail cellulose from factories currently under the final stage of construction in Belarus.

In Finland, LG ekspedicija and logistics company Steveco, Viking operator in Finland, presented the Viking container train to local companies specialising in timber, paper and cellulose export and interested in transport services to Turkey. In September, Steveco will carry out a pilot Viking container train from Finland to Turkey.

“Viking” container train is a joint project of the railways of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Georgia, linking the Baltic and Black Seas.
