Hungary: tender documentation for the second phase of GSM-R deployment will be ready by January 2015

Hungary’s National Info-communications Service Company (NISz) announced that the tender documentation for the second phase of GSM-R deployment will be ready by January 2015. In the second phase it is planned to extend GSM-R coverage to a further 2100 – 2500 km of Hungarian railway network by 2020. The investment is estimated at HUF 34.5 billion (EUR 113 million).

Currently, the first phase of installing  GSM-R  is being implemented on Budapest area, Budapest–Székesfehérvár, Budapest–Győr–Hegyeshalom, Győr–Celldömölk–Boba–Zalaegerszeg–Bajánsenye, Budapest–Cegléd–Szolnok–Szajol Püspökladány, Szajol–Lökösháza and Sopron–Szombathely–Szentgotthárd.

In 2013, NISz awarded  Kapsch CarrierCom –  MVM OVIT Zrt. consortium a EUR 46m contract to install GSM-R on over 900 km of the network. The project will be completed by the end of 2015.
