HXN3B, China’s most powerful shunting locomotive

CNR Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company has presented two units of the country’s most powerful AC drive shunting locomotive. HXN3B shunting locomotive is a 4400 hp AC Drive Electric Locomotive, providing a maximum speed of 100km/h.

The locomotive’s power is three times more compared to conventional DC locomotives, starting tractive effort was increased by 16%, the continuous traction by 51%. The fuel consumption of diesel engine was reduced  to about 27% during idling stops.

HXN3B has achieved the 2nd level of US EPA emission standards (Tier2), and has met the energy requirements of environmental protection.
