Hyperion – Romania’s first electric train manufactured by Softonic

Softronic has invested more than EUR 5 million in developing Romanian’s fist locally manufactured electric train  named Hyperion, a project started 2 years ago. Ionel Ghita, Softronic’s Chairman of the Administration Board, declared for the national press that „This train represents a revolution for the Romanian railway sector, being the first to have low floor and asynchronous traction motors”.

softronic_hyperion_2Hyperion can be developed for 160 km/h and 200 km/h, it has 180 seats,  two motion wagons and two carrier wagons. According to file footage the company has shared on social media platforms, the tests have already been done last December, on Craiova – Filiasi section. The company aims to sell the new product starting with February this year.

In 2009, Softronic launched the first electric locomotive manufactured in Romania after 1990 (Phoenix 5100kW).

Softronic is member of Inovatrans cluster, based in Craiova, listing among its main projects Laboratory Development CD in the modernization and construction of electric locomotives – increasing access to RDI (2009 – 2011), Modernization of Romanian manufacturing electric locomotives type LE 5100 kW  and Introducing the Regional Electric Train – TER.
