Hyundai Rotem obtains EUR 60.5 million tramway order in Turkey

Hyundai Rotem has obtained a EUR 60.5 million order to supply 38  hybrid low-floor tramways to Izmir (Turkey). The order was placed by Turkish company Gulermak Heavy Industries Construction & Contracting Co.,  in charge with constructing two new tramway lines  (9.7km and 12.6km).

It is the first time that Hyundai Rotem has secured a tramway deal in a foreign market. “Our successful performance in past projects and global supplies helped us obtain the first overseas tramway deal in Turkey. With the landmark deal, Rotem made a foothold in fast-growing electric-powered global tram market,” a representative of Hyundai Motor Group stated.

Turkey is currently Hyundai Rotem’s  second-largest export market (after India), with a total of 1006 rolling stock units being sold since 1996.
