Iran to import 3,000km of rails from Turkey and India

Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi said thousands of kilometers of railways will be built across the country, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported on May 17.

“Importing rails will take 6-7 months,” he said. “Importing rails is more economically justified than establishing rail production plants.” Iran will import three thousand kilometers of rails from Turkey and India.

Regarding the Mianeh-Tabriz railway project, he said he will seek the Chinese investment in his next week travel to China.

The route will include 9 stations, 7 tunnels, and 21 bridges. The railway is projected to carry 3 million tons of cargo and 4.5 million passengers per year.
