Latvian Railways (Latvijas Dzelzceļš, LDz) and Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai, LG) will deepen their cooperation, officials of the two companies said, agreeing to regularly meet in order to discuss joint projects. Viking (Lithuania) and Zubr (Latvia) container trains represent important areas of cooperation.
“It is no secret that Lithuanian rail freight volumes are decreasing, so we need to work more closely,” said LDz Vice-President Edvins Berzins, during his meeting with Lithuanian Railways, General Director Stasys Dailydka.
In order to strengthen interests of both railway companies and the Baltic region, the companies intend to take a common position in the CIS Railway Transport Council.
Latvian Railways and Lithuanian Railways also plan to cooperate in the area of container transport, since this form of transport is gradually gaining more popularity.
