LDz Logistika, a subsidiary of Latvian Railways, has posted significant increase in the number of transported containers in 2016. The number of containers from Latvia increased to 5,892 containers, + 93.2% compared to 2015, while the number of containers sent to Latvia registered a two-fold increase to 885 containers. The highest increase was registered on the 20 ft container segment.
The increase in cargo transportation was triggered to the accelerated development of manufacturing in the Central Asian (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan), allowing LDz Logistika to offer profitable routes for manufacturing equipment producers from Europe through Latvian ports and then by rail to the destination. Last year, containers transported mostly equipment for textile manufacturing, poultry breeding and greenhouses.
The volume of oil products transportation also increased last year. In cooperation with Russia’s TransContainer company, LDz Logistika has been able to ensure transportation of containers to customers in Europe, reducing costs and signing agreements on cargo movements in the Port of Riga .
