Lithuanian Railways to implement infrastructure projects worth approx. EUR 870 million

Lithuanian Railways will implement infrastructure projects worth approximately EUR 870 million (LTL 3 billion) during the next six years, benefiting from EU funding.

According to the Development Director of Lithuanian Railways, Virgilijus Jastremskas the company will continue to implement Rail Baltica project: modernisation of the signalling system on Marijampolė – Kazlų Rūda – Kaunas section and Rokai-Palemonas-Kaunas railway sections.  

“The second stage of Rail Baltica project will also start, the construction of a new European standard railway line from Kaunas to Tallinn, we plan to develop the technical project”, said V. Jastremskas.

The company also intents to continue electrification works on corridor IX.  Reconstruction and construction of second tracks on Kaišiadorys-Klaipėda section and the modernization of  Radviliškis-Pagėgiai-v.s. (II-III stages) railway section are also projects to be implemented in 2014 – 2016.

In addition, the reconstruction of  Klaipėda Pauostis  stations is planned.
