Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai) and Lithuania Post (Lietuvos Pastas) signed a collaboration agreement aimed at increasing share in the Europe – China freight market.
“We hope that in the future goods between China and Lithuania will be transported by railway. Lithuania Post, part of the logistics chain, will act as a distribution centre in Lithuania. In this way, the competence of both companies and Lithuania’s transportation infrastructure will be used to the best effect”, stated the General Director of Lithuanian Railways, Stasys Dailydka.
Lithuanian Railways set up a representative office in China. By signing the cooperation agreement, Lithuania Post has access to the representative office, its resources and database to attract new partners.
Most goods arrive to Europe from China by sea. Lithuanian Railways aim to attract part of the cargo to railways. The company signed four agency agreements ensuring secure and quality transportation of goods between Lithuania and China.
Lithuanian Railways is also interested in identifying possible cooperation points with Chinese companies such as Cosco, Sinotrans, China Railway International Multimodal Transport, Beijing Railway Land Bridge International Transportation, Bell Huawei Technology, CITIC Construction, Bondex, Genertec etc.
