Lithuanian Railways to purchase multiple units accessible for passengers with disabilities

Lithuanian Railways plans to purchase this year seven DMUs and three EMUs accessible for passengers with disabilities. The new rolling stock will service Vilnius-Klaipeda route, stated Algis Žvaliauskas, Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications during a meeting with representatives of organisations for people with special needs.

“The Ministry of Transport is actively promoting sustainable mobility and new transport infrastructure projects accessible for passengers with disabilities“, said Žvaliauskas.

According to Lithuanian Railways, ten EMUs on N.Vilnius-Kaunas and N.Vilnius-Trakai  routes are equipped with on board lifts for wheelchairs, special places for fastening wheelchairs, toilet systems with access for disabled people, train staff emergency call buttons. All important information is also available in Braille.
