Longest tram in the world enters service in Budapest

On the 31st of March the longest tram in the world entered operation in Budapest. According to Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), Urbos 3/9 CAF tramway can set the world-record for being the longest tram (55.9 m length) and for having the largest capacity, it can accommodate 345 people at the same time. The low-floor tram fully meets the modern standards, the interior is are-conditioned, and all seats are easily accessible.

Budapest Transport Company (BKV Zrt.) will operate a total of 12 long trams, serving on Line 1. These are part of a 37 low-floor Urbos 3 trams order, 25 34m-long and 12 55.9-m long vehicles, placed by BKK in 2013. The order included an option for 87 additional trams, part of which has already been exercised.

The shorter CAF trams presented in mid-September 2015 are already operating on the lines 3, 17 and the northern section of line 19.
