The tender for the purchase of new generation cars for Moscow Metro is to be announced before the end of May. Though the tender will bring together the world’s leading manufacturers, preference will be given to Russian companies. Among the companies that expressed interest in the tender are Uralvagonzavod, Sinara and Metrovagonmash. It is expected that the new cars will be operational starting with 2016.
The metro cars will have to meet all international standards of control and security, and will be equipped with CCTVs.
The supplier will also have to service the trains over 30 years. In case of technical problems, the supplier will have to pay a fine of RUB 1.51 million. The tender also requires the winner to eventually set up at least partial production of the trains locally.
Between 2014 and 2020 Moscow Metro will purchase a total of 3,000 new cars, out of which 264 already this year. The new rolling stock will run on Serpukhovsko – Timiriazev metro-line .
