The first two of eight metro trainsets manufactured by CAF for Metrorex, Bucharest underground operator, are ready to be commissioned. The final reception of the two trains was successful, after they underwent a full set of dynamic tests carried out by Metrorex and CAF specialists.
“As we announced, we have seeded up the delivery of the 8 metro trains for Bucharest. The final reception of the two trains took place in the last two weeks, so they will enter operations starting in March. CAF has also delivered four other trains since the start of the year, which are undergoing dynamic tests at Metrorex,” stated Inaki Barrenechea, CAF Export Area Manager.
According to CAF, the new generation metros are equipped with software control and diagnosis through the Train Control Monitoring System, Human Machine Interface unit, advanced passenger information system.
First 16 CAF metro sets were purchased under a EUR 97 million contract signed in 2011. In 2014, Metrorex exercised an option for CAF to supply eight six-car trainsets. The contract value is EUR 4 7 million.
