New Diesel-Electric Trains to Serve Sverdlovsk Railway

Two new DT1-type passenger trains have been rolled out on the Sverdlovsk Mainline.
What makes these diesel-electric trains special is that they can be used on both electrified and non-electrified sections of the railway. According to General Director of JSC Sverdlovsk Commuter Rail Company (SCRC) Evgeniy Savostin, the trains will be operated on the Yekaterinburg – Egorshino – Alapayevsk – Nizhniy Tagil route.

The rolling stock, manufactured by Torzhok Carriage Works, was purchased last year. Each train has two leading cars, a motor car, a trailer coach and a seating capacity of 528 passengers. The railcars are fitted for both high and low platforms.

“The new diesel-electric trains will replace old rolling stock operated on the Sverdlovsk Railway,” said Evgeniy Savostin.

Until the year 2017, JSC SCRC is planning to buy 12 ED4M type electric trains, 12 rail buses and 3 more DT1-type diesel-electric trains.
