Austrian Federal Railways have selected Siemens as preferred bidder in the tender for the supply of up to 200 electric freight locomotives. A 10-day standstill period will be followed by the final award of the contract, informs Austrian Press Agency, citing ÖBB.
The framework contract includes 100 standard four-axle freight locomotives (≥120 km/h), 50 four or six-axle (≥120 km/h) and 50 six-axle last mile locomotives (≥120 km/h).
ÖBB transports 459 million passengers and 111 million tonnes of freight annually. The state-owned group has more than 40,000 employees in the railway and bus sectors and an additional 1,700 apprentices.
