Port of Gdańsk Authority (ZMPG) has announced that a record amount of PLN 8 bln will be invested in the port’s development during the next five years. ZMPG plans PLN 842 million worth projects, with a significant spending during 2017-2019. Of the amount, PLN 479 million will be allocated from its own budget and the remaining will be covered by EU funding.
Approximately PLN 7 billion investments are being carried out by the companies operating in the port area PERN (construction of an oil terminal), DCT Gdańsk SA (extension of the container terminal) and OT Logistics (construction of a deep water terminal).
There are over 100 projects in Port of Gdansk development plan. One of the largest projects, worth PLN 110 million concerns the modernisation of the rail and road network in the Outer Port.
In 2014 Gdańsk handled 1.2 million TEU, approaching its maximum capacity. About 20% of the tonnage serviced annually at the port is transported by rail.
