Poland: Aldesa to renovate Gliwice railway station

PKP PLK signed a PLN 137 milion (EUR 32 million) contract with Aldesa Construcciones Poland and Aldesa Construcciones  consortium for the reconstruction of Gliwice railway station. 

“The project is co-funded by EU, under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment. This is one of the most large-scale projects carried out by the PKP Group. So far, with EU’s financial support the stations in Gdynia and Wroclaw have been modernised, and as well the new underground station Krakow Central. There are ongoing investment in Szczecin and Bydgoszcz”, stated the deputy director of PKP Group Investments Department, Wojciech Rokicki.

W0rks for the reconstruction of the railway station,  three platforms and related infrastructure will last until the end of 2015. Works on platform 4 will be completed in 2016.

The most important aim of the railway station’s reconstruction in Gliwice is the improvement of the travelers’ comfort and adjustment of the structure to modern standards of the service. A new component will be added: a passage connecting both halls, which will allow passengers to move around the station. The station will be adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility.

The station will be equipped with a modern passenger information system, monitoring and intelligent building management systems. 

The development of the railway station and three platforms will finish till the end of 2015 and works on the fourth platform will last till 2016.
