Regional train operator Przewozy Regionalne presented the first of the four EN57 EMU modernised by Newag SA. The vehicle will enter operation on Gdynia-Elbląg-Olsztyn and Gdynia-Bydgoszcz routes.
The EMUs are equipped with air-conditioning system, monitoring and passenger information systems, passenger seats fitted with 230V electric sockets. The PRM TSI -compliant toilets have been adapted to the needs of passengers with reduced mobility. The driver’s cabs have been equipped with ergonomically designed control panels.
The trains will have a maximum speed of 120km/h. The modern traction drive with the IGBT inverter and the electro-dynamic braking will enable energy recovery to the overhead line during braking. Bogies have been fitted with brand new drive systems consisting of brand-new asynchronous traction motors, two-stage transmission with a hollow shaft and with flexible coupling transmitting torque to the wheelset.
The Marshal’s Office of Pomorskie Province awarded Newag the PLN 30.4 million contract the for the modernisation of four EN57 series EMUs in August 2014.
