Poland tests for the first time ERTMS level 2 system

PKP PLK began testing ERTMS level 2 system, installed on E 30 Legnica – Bielawa Dolna railway section. The results of the interaction between ERTMS wayside and on-board equipment will be used to implement the level 2 system on the main railway lines in Poland.

The EP09 locomotive fitted with on-board special equipment was used for the testing process. The locomotive departed from Okmiany station and tests were carried out on Okmiany – Zebrzydowa railway section, closed to traffic.

The aim of the first tests of the dynamic train control system ERTMS level 2 is to assess the assumptions adopted in regarding the technical solution.

The project is part of “Modernization of Railway Line E30, Stage II. Pilot implementation of ERTMS/ETCS and ERTMS/GSM-R in Poland, Legnica – Węgliniec – Bielawa Dolna section”.
