Polish locomotive manufacturer Newag Gliwice and Croatian company Đuro Đaković Specijalna Vozila, company part of Đuro Đaković Holding, signed a cooperation agreement for the joint manufacturing of a four-axle single-system electric locomotive E4ACU Griffin.
The agreement specifies a long-term cooperation including technology transfer and sharing of expertise and know-how in the production of electric locomotives.
“The cooperation with the well-known Polish company Newag ensures mutual benefits for the economies of both countries. This is an important event for Đuro Đaković, since the production of locomotives restarts in the city of Slavonski Brod after 23 years. At the same time, it is for the first time that Đuro Đaković has the opportunity to produce electric locomotives. The agreement allows us to sell locomotives produced in Croatia in both EU and non-EU markets. I am glad that Đuro Đaković, a company with experience in the production of diesel locomotives before the war in the Balkan Peninsula, and which currently manufactures wagons, has been recognized as a valuable partner with the necessary know-how and skills to implement this demanding technology. Considering HŽ Cargo’s need for locomotives, we hope that with good quality products, competitive prices and additional benefits packages, together with NEWAG Gliwice, we will succeed in gaining the confidence of the operator” said the Đuro Đaković Chairman of the Board,Vladimir Kovačevi.
Griffin Electric locomotive is designed for pulling freight wagons of up to 3,200 tonnes at speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour (km/h) and passenger trains at speeds of up to 200 km/h.
In addition to the production agreement, Đuro Đaković will be allowed to sell the locomotives on third markets, while Newag will sell Đuro Đaković wagons on the Polish and other markets.
