The reconstruction of Belgrade-Pancevo rail project can start, since the Government of Serbia has already made a payment of 9 million EUR to Serbian Railways for 15% participation, from the funds from the Russian loan intended for modernization of the rail Belgrade – Pancevo, according to the statement by the company. ” All the necessary conditions have been made for modernization of the rail Pancevo bridge – Pancevo main station” declared Dragoljub Simonovic, CEO of Serbian Railways.
In June, RZD International LLC (a subsidiary of RZD) and Serbian Railways JSC signed additional agreement in the framework of their contract for the construction (reconstruction) of railway infrastructure and the supply of diesel trains to Serbia. The subject of the additional agreement was the construction of the second electrified railway track on the Belgrade – Panchevo section (15 km long). After modernization and electrical reconstruction, its efficiency will be improved, and possible reachable speed by the trains will be 120 km/h. Building permit was issued on October, 3, and 15% of the necessary funds create conditions for the beginning of works. Russian partners have already started selection of contractors.
The original contract was signed on May 23rd 2013 in Belgrade by General Director of RZD International Ltd Sergei Pavlov and CEO of Serbian Railways Dragoljub Simonovic in the presence of President of JSC RZD Vladimir Yakunin. It includes along with the construction and electrification of the Belgrade-Pancevo rail line:
– the reconstruction of six railway stretches along Pan European Transport Corridor No 10 with a total length of 112km; the overhaul of the existing track and the construction of a second spur (44km long) on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad rail stretch
– the reconstruction of a 200km-long section of the Belgrade – Bar rail line and the supply of 26 diesel trains built by JSC Metrovagonmash
Reconstruction, construction and modernization of the second rail line on the section Pancevo bridge – Pancevo main station is the first project from the Russian loan to be realized in 2014. The value of works totals 69 million EUR, out of which 60 million EUR is from the loan, and 9 million EUR, 15%, is provided by the state. The project also includes reconstruction existing track and electrification on the second track, development and enhancement railway infrastructure at the stations between Pancevacki bridge and Pancevo main station (Krnjača, Ovča, bridge Krnjača and Sebeš).
