Romania to access EFSI financing for three strategic railway projects

Romania to access EFSI financing for three strategic railway projectsRomania aims to access financing from the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) for 16 infrastructure projects. Transport Minister Dan Costescu has coordinated their promotion at the ‘Boosting EFSI Investments In Transport’ session of the TEN-T Days 2016 event in Rotterdam. The list of infrastructure projects developed by the state owned companies subordinated to the Ministry of Transport also include three strategic railway projects:

  • Investment package for connecting Bucharest to the South industrial areas
  • Modernisation of railway lines included in the Orient/East-Med Corridor
  • Modernisation and electrification of Constanța – Mangalia (44 km) railway line

At the meeting in Rotterdam rail freight transport issues were also discussed. Transport ministers adopted a series of measures during the discussion sessions:

  •  effective improvements for eliminating bottlenecks and facilitating international traffic on Orient/EastMed Corridor Rail Freight Corridor, along with the Action Plan for Orient/East-Med Corridor
  • reducing border waiting times in rail freight transport, along with the related Action Plan
