The Romanian locomotive manufacturer, Electroputere VFU Craiova (part of Grampet Group) and American company Caterpillar presented today the prototype of Terra Nova LDH 1260shunting locomotive. The diesel-hydraulic locomotive was designed in collaboration with Electroputere VFU – Reloc SA, part of Grampet Group.
Terra Nova is part of Caterpillar’s first three projects. Electroputere VFU Craiova and Electroputere VFU – Reloc SA set up a production line for these locomotives, designed to be used on narrow gauge railways, medium or CIS gauge. “It has an engine that meets future emission requirements for stage IIIB, not yet compulsory in EU “, said Calin Gratian, General Manager of Electroputere VFU – Reloc SA.
According to him, the company has a production capacity of three locomotives per month and already has a pre-order for eight Terra Nova locomotives.
Over the past 50 years, Electroputere produced more than 8,000 locomotives.
